As we conservatives sit fuming as our party abandons us, I would offer these few words of wisdom to our last hope of avoid decades of Rockefeller mediocrity:
1) Governor Romney, you are not running only against McCain. You are running against McCain and Huckabee. Start telling people that. You should step out tonight and announce your war against the McCain/Huckabee "machine". Make yourself the outsider, the underdog, the New York Giants.
You can come back from this, but only if you take the gloves off.
2) Do not cede the war on terror to John McCain as an issue. He is the man who wants to close Gitmo and give Geneva Convention rights to war criminals. Call him on it, come out against it. Demand the voters stack your POLICIES against his RECORD.
You can win, but only if you start trying. Tell the voters what you want to do. Stop trying to tell them what you won’t do.
3) Stop responding to John McCain. Man up. You were right on Bob Dole and should be outraged by McCain’s disgusting response. Act like a man and you’ll be treated like one. Act like a wuss and you’ll end up on the ash heap of history.
